How to calculate habit completion
Completion rate = completed sessions ÷ planned sessions × 100. Use whole numbers and count each planned session once. The result is rounded to one decimal place; it measures completion of your plan, not effort, health or whether a habit has become automatic.
Daily and weekly examples
- A daily reading plan: 21 completed days out of 28 planned days is 75%. Seven planned days were not completed.
- Three sessions a week: over four weeks, plan 12 sessions. Completing 10 gives 83.3%. Do not use all 28 calendar days as the denominator: your rest days were never planned sessions.
- A new habit: if your plan starts halfway through a month, include only the opportunities in that plan, not days before you started.
Choose a useful comparison
Compare periods with the same habit and counting rule. If your schedule changes, keep the number of planned sessions visible alongside the percentage. Completing 3 of 3 and 30 of 30 both gives 100%, but they represent different amounts of practice.
Is completion rate the same as a streak?
No. A streak needs the order of completed and missed sessions. A total such as 21 out of 28 cannot tell you your longest streak. Keep a dated record if you want to see that pattern.
What if I completed extra sessions?
This calculator measures how many planned opportunities you completed, so the completed count cannot exceed the planned count. Keep extra sessions separate, or use a clearly revised plan consistently. Do not count the same opportunity twice.
